Dianne Webster’s Lie
Dianne Webster was Fiona Payne’s Mother.She said in her first statement given on the 4th May 2007 at 8:45pm. This was after Rachael Oldfield and before Russell O’Brien.
Her lie relates back to the false alibi also.
The difference with Dianne Webster though, is she didn’t lie in her first statement, she just didn’t remember who left and when out of the group members, but she said she remembered Gerry McCann and Kate McCann leaving the restaurant.
Whereas by the time Dianne Webster gave her second interview on the 11th May 2007 at 11:30am, the group had been able to discuss their alibi all week. Therefore, Dianne Webster then stated this in her interview;
Dianne Webster suddenly remembered that Russell O’Brien left the Tapas restaurant.
Dianne Webster does not remember that it was with Matthew Oldfield.
Dianne Webster does not state that Jane Tanner left when switching places with Russell O’Brien.
How can she now suddenly remember Russell O’Brien leaving and returning but no other member of the group?
In our opinion, the only reason why she had to remember to say Russell O’Brien was because he wasn’t at the meal that night, and needed to strengthen his alibi more than anyone else in the group.
The group tend to agree that Matthew Oldfield, Gerry McCann, Kate McCann and Jane Tanner left the restaurant during the meal, but only 2 out of the 8 (not including Russell O’Brien) said that Russell O’Brien had left at 9:30pm.
This was why it was so important that Dianne Webster now said that she remembered Russell O’Brien leaving and returning to the restaurant.
OUR CONCLUSIONS FROM THESE FINDINGS ARE THAT DIANNE WEBSTER WAS TOLD TO LIE ABOUT RUSSELL O’BRIEN LEAVING AND RETURNING TO THE RESTAURANT TO STRENGTHEN HIS ALIBI.
