What was the routine during the week for the group and children?
So far, we have only covered a small part of this case in to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.There is plenty more that we want to discuss, but so much information to go through.
The next part we will discuss is the routine during the week.
The McCann’s and Friends arrived on Saturday the 28th April 2007. As this was the first day, and the majority of the group arrived in the afternoon, they didn't follow a set routine.
The groups routine started on the Sunday.
We are going to look at the groups afternoon and evening routines as there seems to be more questions raised of what happened after 5:30pm on Thursday the 3rd May 2007, the day Madeleine McCann disappeared.
Once again, we will go through the statements in order they were given.
Gerry McCann was the first group member to discuss the routine in his first statement given on the 4th May 2007 at 11:15am
Gerry McCann stated that after the children had dinner at 5:00pm, they would have a bath, get them ready for the night and then take them to the play area near the tennis courts. At about 7:30-8:00pm the children were put to bed.
While the children were at the kids club, Gerry McCann and Kate McCann would play tennis.
Matthew Oldfield was the next group member to talk about a routine in his first statement given on the 4th May 2007 at 11:30am.
Matthew Oldfield stated a different routine to what Gerry McCann described in his first statement. Matthew Oldfield stated that after the children had ate, they went to the play area. Matthew Oldfield does not state anything about bath time in between the children eating and going to the play area. This is either because he has a different routine to Gerry McCann and takes his children to play before bathing, or, one of them is lying.
On the same day, 4th May 2007, Kate McCann gave her first statement at 2:20pm. Kate McCann was the next group member to discuss the routine in the afternoon.
Kate McCann stated EXACTLY the same as Gerry McCann who was sat in her interview with her.
Kate McCann stated that after the children had dinner they were bathed, prepared for the night, and then taken to the play area next to the tennis courts.
This was the same as Gerry McCann’s statement, almost word for word. (Their first statements are almost exactly the same)
The next member of the group to give their statement on the 4th May 2007 was Fiona Payne at 7:20pm.
Fiona Payne stated that they would stay at the pool zone/tennis courts until 6:00-7:00pm, they would then return to the apartment were they would bathe their children before putting them to bed.
So, after the groups first statements, the above people were the only ones to discuss the routine. Before we look further into this, we will
summarise our findings so far.
Gerry and Kate McCann both stated that after the children had finished their tea which started at 5:00pm, they would bathe them at the apartments, prepare them for bed, then take them to the play area before going to sleep.
Matthew Oldfield stated that his children had their tea and then were taken to the play area near the tennis courts.
Fiona Payne stated that after the children napped, they would go to pool zone/tennis courts until 6:00-7:00pm, after which, they would return to the apartment to bathe the children.
From looking at the groups first statements, there is a difference in the groups routine. Gerry and Kate McCann have stated that they bathe their children before going the play area, whereas Matthew Oldfield and Fiona Payne stated that the children play in the play area before returning to the apartment to be bathed.
This can still mean only 2 things.
1) Gerry and Kate McCann follow a different routine to their friends, and while the groups children are playing, Gerry and Kate McCann’s children are being bathed, then when the groups children are being bathed, Gerry and Kate McCann’s children are playing.
2) People are lying.
We will now continue by looking through the groups second statements.
Gerry McCann was the first one to give his second statement on the 10th May 2007 at 3:20pm.
Gerry McCann had now stated something different to the routine he originally stated in his first interview.
Gerry McCann now states;
At 5:00pm the children have dinner at the Tapas bar.
At 5:30pm the children play in the play area near the tennis courts.
At 6:30pm the children are bathed and prepared for bed
At 7:30pm the children go to bed.
This routine now matches the same routine as Matthew Oldfield and Fiona Payne.
Why was it important in Gerry McCann’s first interview for him to lie about the children’s evening routine? (We will come back to this in a future post)
Jane Tanner in her second statement given on the 10th May 2007 at 4:35pm stated the same routine as the other group members;
Jane Tanner states the same routine as the other members of the group who have given their statements so far.
The routine is not discussed by anyone else in their second statements.
We are not going to go through the rogatory statements in this section as they will be used in a future post relating to a similar topic to this but in more detail, but will still confirm the groups routine.
OUR CONCLUSIONS FROM OUR RESEARCH REGARDING THE WHOLE GROUPS ROUTINE IS THAT EVERY NIGHT FROM SUNDAY TO WEDNESDAY THEY DID THE FOLLOWING;
5:00-5:30PM - CHILDREN ATE AT THE TAPAS
5:30-6:30PM - THE GROUP WENT TO THE PLAY AREA
6:30-7:30PM - THE CHILDREN ARE BATHED
7:30PM - THE CHILDREN ARE PUT TO BED
