Part 5 - Gerry McCann's Lie

Gerry McCann’s lie

We have briefly explained the timelines of the group and how these were created.

The timelines were not to help the investigation in my opinion but to help the group remember the lies they were going to tell in their statements and to the Portuguese authorities.

We have already explained how Jane Tanner lied about seeing the abductor and how she was not seen by Gerry McCann or Jeremy Wilkins when she should have been.

We are now going to explain when and why Gerry McCann lied during Jane Tanners lie and how his lie allowed Jane Tanners to continue.

So, going back to Jane Tanner’s lie. Jane Tanner said she walked directly past Gerry McCann and Jeremy Wilkins. Neither men saw her walk past and Jane Tanner did not speak to Gerry McCann when she supposedly walked past the both of them talking.

Both Jane Tanner and Jeremy Wilkins said that both of the men were stood on the McCann side of the road just outside the gate to the patio door of the apartment.

Gerry McCann did not mention Jane Tanner during this time in his first interview that he gave while Jane Tanner was giving hers, but Jane Tanner said she walked past them during her 1st interview given at the same time as Gerry McCann.

After their first interviews has been given, the group had a week to discuss what had been said in their interviews and this would be when Gerry McCann found out Jane Tanner had said she had walked past himself and Jeremy while talking.

Gerry McCann knew this was a lie as he had not seen he walk past and knew if she had walked past the both of them, there was no doubt that one of them would have seen her.

Because he had already gave his first statement and Jane Tanner had also given hers, he could change what Jane Tanner had said, therefore in his 2nd statement given on the 10th May 2007 at 3:20pm, he was the first person to give their 2nd statement out of the group.

As you can see from his 2nd statement, Gerry McCann now says that he crossed the road to speak to Jeremy Wilkins.

As we seen in Jeremy Wilkins statement from the 7th May 2007, he said they were outside the McCann’s gate to the patio door when they were talking. He also drew a sketch to show their position. Also, in his 2nd statement from the 5th November 2007, he clearly stated where Gerry McCann stood, once again, on the McCann side of the road, near the gate, with Gerry McCann’s back towards the apartment. (See Jane Tanner’s lie)

The reason why Gerry McCann changed the position he was stood in his 2nd statement is because he knew that he would be questioned why he did not see Jane Tanner and why they did not speak to each other, especially because Jane Tanner had said that Kate McCann had been wondering what was taking Gerry McCann so long.

So by crossing the road it allowed Jane Tanner’s lie of the abductor with child to continue.

Without this lie in their story line the group had no alibi.

Gerry McCann helped to strengthen their alibi by crossing the road.

OUR CONCLUSION FROM THESE FINDINGS IS THAT GERRY MCCANN LIED TO ALLOW JANE TANNER’S LIE TO CONTINUE
