Brief description of the case;
Madeleine McCann was a 3 year old girl who went on holiday to Praia De Luz, Portugal, with her parents, siblings and their parents’ friends on the 28th April 2007.
On the 3rd May 2007 at 10:40pm the Portuguese authorities were alerted to the disappearance of a 3 year old girl who her parents and friends said had been abducted.
When the Portuguese authorities arrived, they treated this case as an abduction as they had no reason to believe that the parents or group members had any involvement.
The McCann’s and friends had all said that they had been leaving their children alone in the apartments while they ate their dinner in the nearby Tapas restaurant.
The group said that they had all been returning to the apartments at intervals during the meals in the evening to check that the children hadn’t woken up.
The group said that they did this routine each night except for the first day they arrived, were they say they ate at the Millennium restaurant.
On the Thursday night, the group said that they went to dinner as usual and it was during one of Kate McCann’s checks to her apartment, that she discovered Madeleine missing and raised the alarm with the rest of the group.
The Police thoroughly investigated the abduction theory which the McCann’s and friends had said happened that night due to one of the friends witnessing a man carrying a child before Kate discovered Madeleine missing.
After 12 years, there is still no evidence of an abduction by a stranger.
The only evidence to prove that Madeleine disappeared was the following;
Madeleine missing,
Open shutters to the children’s room,
A possible sighting of the possible abductor by a friend of the McCann’s.
There was no more evidence to prove an abduction by a stranger had taken place.

The McCann’s and friends all gave their statements to the Portuguese authorities the day after Madeleine went missing and a week after Madeleine had gone missing.
These statements were all signed by each member of the group to state that everything within their statement was true to their knowledge.
Eventually the parents where made suspects by the Portuguese authorities due to findings from Eddie and Keela, trained cadaver and blood detecting dogs.
The McCann’s were interrogated regarding these findings but due to lack of further evidence, the McCann’s could not be charged with the involvement of Madeleine’s disappearance. The suspect status was removed and the McCann’s were no longer official suspects.
This did not mean the McCann’s were innocent, it meant that there was insufficient evidence to find them guilty at the time.
The friends of the McCann’s were interviewed in April 2008 by the UK authorities on a voluntary basis.

Over the past 12 years, suspicions towards the parents and their friends have increased due to the lack of development in the case looking at the abduction theory, but still they have not been reinterviewed and neither have their friends.
The case continues to this day, and until enough evidence is found to convict someone in Madeleine’s disappearance, the case will most likely remain open indefinitely.
Assumptions can be made that Madeleine died in the holiday apartment due to the findings of the dogs, but cannot be confirmed until forensic evidence can prove this.
This still provides the possibility that Madeleine McCann did not leave that apartment alive.
Even without the dogs findings, we are still able to show the lies within their statements which show that it is almost certain something happened to Madeleine McCann on Thursday 3rd May 2007 between 6:30-7:00pm.
